If Texas seceded from the Union, where would its national defense come from?

There's all this talk about Texas and its strong state economy, and that it should secede from the Union. But if it did secede, just how would it defend itself from an invading enemy army??? A bunch of cattle ranchers with rifles on horseback wouldn't be enough to deter China from invading.
