Can you use a necklace with a charm for a dowsing crystal?

Honey, I've seen dowsing done with a nail tied to a piece of string, pretty much anything will work. It helps if the charm is the right weight, not so light the breeze will catch it, not so heavy it won't move. But beyond that pretty much anything can work.
